Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions. Contact us if you need more detail.

Is this AI-generated?

No. Unravlr is a schema-first workflow. You define structured device and port data, and the system generates output deterministically from that data.

What is Unravlr?

Unravlr converts structured Excel input into deterministic network diagram exports. Define your topology in a workbook, then generate consistent diagrams without manual layout work.

How do I get started?

Start in the evaluation flow. Define devices and tiers, generate the workbook, complete the structured connection fields, and then upload it to generate the diagram output.

Why Excel first?

Excel is a practical review surface for infrastructure teams. It gives you a structured workbook that can be validated, checked, revised, and handed between engineers before diagram generation.

What output format does it produce?

.drawio files that open directly in draw.io or diagrams.net. Output includes device nodes, port labels, port channels, media type indicators, and tier-based auto-layout.

Can I edit the final diagram?

Yes. The generated output is intended to be opened and edited in draw.io or diagrams.net after download.

Is Visio supported?

Not currently. The supported output today is draw.io-compatible .drawio.

What file formats are supported?

The current workflow uses Excel workbooks for structured input and produces .drawio output for editing and distribution.

How deterministic is the layout?

Given the same input workbook, Unravlr produces the same output every time. Layout is computed from tier structure and port definitions — not from any heuristic that could vary between runs.

Is there a size limit on topologies?

Yes. The evaluation tier is intended for smaller trials and currently supports up to 8 devices and 3 tiers per topology. Larger topologies are for Plus and Enterprise use.

What happens to my data?

Excel files are processed ephemerally in the Worker — no persistent storage. Generated diagrams are returned directly to your browser. See our privacy policy for full details.

Do I need to sign in?

Yes. Sign-in is required for the app workflow, including workbook generation, upload, and paid checkout.

What happens if validation fails?

If the workbook fails validation, you receive an Excel file back with the issues marked so you can correct the input and retry.

Does it work in secure or air-gapped environments?

The frontend is a static export. The generation backend runs in a Cloudflare Worker. For enterprise deployments, self-hosted Worker options are available — contact us to discuss.

Who is it for?

Network engineers, architects, and NOC teams who need repeatable, standardized network diagrams. Particularly useful for teams managing multi-vendor, multi-tier topologies.

Is the evaluation tier really free?

Yes. Evaluation is free and gives you the real workflow within the small-topology limits. It is for trying the product, not for unrestricted production-scale use.
